We’ve now been here for five days and let me tell you, I’ve learned so much already. Amy and I are the only ones who are really in school right now. It’s nice to keep busy and always have something to do during the day. Our days are spent in the school and when we get home, the four of us will hang out and talk about everything or just relax in the living room and read or watch tv. It’s a very relaxing lifestyle here, something I’m not really used to.
So I finally got things settled in my school. Instead of having just one teacher I work with, I have three. This will be much more worthwhile I feel because instead of working and learning with one teacher, I get to learn from three. So there’s three different styles I get to learn and interact with. My students range in ages from 13 to 15. I have 1st formers and 2nd formers, which is our equivalent to freshmen and sophomores. Today is the first day that I will actually get to meet the classes that I’ll be teaching, so I’m really looking forward to that.
Amy and I finally figured out how to get lunch in the school. Teachers must order their meals before 11 o’clock and pick it up around lunchtime. The other day I had lunch of fried chicken and rice. It was absolutely delicious—nothing like what we get in the states. I could definitely get used to this.
We’re finally moving into our house this weekend, but won’t be able to until Monday, so we have to take school off. It’ll be nice to finally be in our own place, make our own food and do whatever we want. We will also have three air conditioners, which is a definite plus. We’ll also have cable and wifi, so we should be able to start skyping soon, as long as we figure out a way around it.
This weekend we’re going on our very first trip. We’re going to Hopkins, which is a very nice beach on the Southern part of Belize. We’re going to try and go snorkeling (which should be interesting, something I’ve never done before). We’re also just going to play on the beach and work on our awesome tans—yes, I am much darker than I was a week ago J We just need to figure out how to get there, which will be the interesting part….Wish us luck!
