According to my last entry, we were just about to go on our first trip to Hopkins. Well, we made it there and back, successfully. It took us two buses to get there. Now, the buses in Belize are different from the Miami Metros we all know and love. These are essentially old school buses that are painted random colors. Oh, and there's no limit on the number of people you can chove into a bus. On the way back, we had to essentially stand in the middle for an hour and a half. But the scenery was really cool. We drove through the hills and along the coast, and into little random villages.
We made it to our hotel Friday night. It was called Jungle Jeanie's By the Sea and it was owned by a older Canadian couple. They were super nice and drove us around that night to get us dinner. The next morning, we got breakfast and then went snorkeling! It was my first time ever doing that and it was amazing! Belize has the largest coral reef in our hemisphere and we got to see all these tropical fish and coral. I saw a stingray, too! It was sweet, until I freaked out and swam away. It was a gorgeous day and I got burnt! I'm still peeling, and I have three witnesses that can say i was still very diligent about putting sunscreen on!
So that was pretty much our weekend. We hung out on the beach and just had a fantastic time. In fact, we're planning on going back in November and John, one of the owners, is taking us out on his boat for a huge party...or at least that's the plan.
Now onto school. My schedule is finally settled. Instead of having three different teachers, I now only have one. She's really nice and really excited about me working with her. She's extremely helpful and I feel comfortable working with her. I had some issues with one teacher, but that's currently being worked out. I'm teaching two 1st form English classes and two 2nd form Literature classes. The kids seem great and I can't wait to see what I can learn from them and vice versa. I already have DRA's and writing notebook plans to work out :)
We don't have school this Friday, so we're going to hang around here and go to the Zoo. The next big trip we're planing are some Mayan ruins. We're debating whether or not to go to Tikal in Guatemala or Corozal (or however you spell it). Either would be pretty sweet. I can't wait to go!
So life's pretty good. We're pretty much big homebodies. Last night we went to bed at 9:30, but we're perfectly okay with it. Our staying up late is 11 and our sleeping in is like 8am. But it's been so much fun. We finally got internt in our house, but it's too slow to use skype. We're going to see what we can do, but for now, just write me emails. I love having pen pals :)
